REYKJAVIK – Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Rós suffered embarrassment this week as their management admitted it had sent the wrong album to distributors.

“I thought I was listening to the band’s new album Kveikur but it was actually the tapes for Valtari,” admitted their manager Thor Einarsson.

The mistake unfortunately was not noticed in time by management or members of the band and the first run of Kveikur, released today, has been pressed on vinyl using tapes of Valtari, their album from 2012.

When confronted with the question of how something like this could happen, Einarsson responded “I have been working alongside Sigur Rós for almost eight years and this is the first time this has happened. Well, it’s the first time someone in the band also didn’t notice.”

Fans who have pre-ordered physical copies of the album should be advised that they will be able to swap their mis-pressed vinyl or CDs for a replacement containing the real new music once the correct album gets mastered for vinyl and re-pressed.

Singer and band leader Jónsi put out a statement today to reassure fans, adding “most of you didn’t listen to the last album anyway so it will probably feel pretty new.”
