Ever since 2013 rolled in Blitzkrieg Baby has been on a non-stop musical warpath singling out disgusting and twisted rituals the world at large has to offer to the many, many unfortunate citizens that were born on Earth. Their extravagant martial-industrial offerings have been hit-after-hit with EPs such as "Cannibal Commando", "War Gods", and (my personal favorite) "Kids' World". Last year saw the release of their first full-length album "Homo Sapiens Parasitus" via Neuropa Records since their debut "Porcus Norvegicus" which saw a bit of an aesthetic change for the band. Rather than focusing on realistic and gritty pig-mask wearing men or child soldiers wielding dual pistols, the cover art suggested a parody on classic cartoons. The cover art was a huge play on Looney Tunes with the background being an almost exact replica of what Porky Pig pops out of to deliver his infamous line, "That's all folks!"

Their 2020 effort is doubling-down on that stylistic choice as "Genocidal Sextasy" has cover art that replaces the horrifying pig mask with that of a cartoon-ish pig that once again reminds me of Porky Pig. Only this time the mask is over a bullet-belt wearing, assault rifle toting, Purge-looking character. The top of the cover art has the band's name written in font with which I can only compare to that of Disney's old-school writing. To say that they've nailed the cynicism the band has constantly put forth in the lyrics is an understatement; they've perfected it on this album. 

So then comes the music; how does it fare? Exceptionally well. To get the bad news out of the way first, there is only one song on the entire record that didn't hit home with me. And that song is 'Fed Them To The Pigs'; it's a repetitious bout whose looping structure and drug-induced sounding vocal delivery brought boredom to me after the first minute. On replays of the entire album I found myself skipping over this song to get to the peak of "Genocidal Sextasy". Considering this one lasts for four-minutes and three-seconds, I felt like banging my head off the wall while listening to this song.

Alas, despite that, the rest of the album is probably the most coherent and wonderful output I've heard from the band thus far. It begins off with a whispering horror; an introductory track by the name of 'Open Season On Homo Sapiens'. The title of the track alone sets the tone for the rest of "Genocidal Sextasy". 'Kill Them All' brings us directly into the heart of Blitzkrieg Baby with marching tunes and lyrics that convey a depressing and manic image of soldiers slaughtering like machines without thought of their own. Other songs prepared in a similar fashion lyrically but with a different musical beat and attitude are 'One by One' and 'Piggy'. 

The album is split between songs with tremendous and stark lyrics and instrumental tracks that are just as ominous and repressing as their counterparts. 'Manhunt' is a brilliant fast-paced tune that keeps up differing background noise that kept me on edge; 'Fuck Toy For The Death Patrols' is a militaristic marching tune from afar signaling the death of all in the area; 'Genocidal Sextasy' sounds like a slow build up for a blood curdling massacre, and the list goes on and on. 

But perhaps my favorite song that I've pulled off from this record is 'Just Another Throat To Slit'. Fulfilling their distorted vision of Disneyland and again Looney Tunes, I described it as a fucked-up ballad from a children's movie to a few friends and they all agreed with me. It's haunting, disconcerting, and sinister. If there is any one song that I can recommend with a whole heart it would be this one; every time I play the album I can't wait until this song hits. 

"Genocidal Sextasy" is available from Cloister Recordings in both digital and limited edition LP formats. Plus, the LP version comes with a free cut-out pig mask. That's just the icing on the already delicious mutant cake Blitzkrieg Baby is serving us on this album.
