Industrial/noise artist Rachel Haywire of Experiment Haywire is currently raising funds for the second annual Extreme Futurist Festival, scheduled to take place on December 21, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA. The festival, referred to by LA Weekly as “a TED conference for the counterculture,” made its debut in 2011, founded on the principles of Transhumanism, bringing together like minds on the cutting edge of science, technology, music, and art. Haywire states the intent of the festival to be “Bringing together the best minds of my generation,” going on to state that “Creative people on the fringes of society need a more intellectual world than the counterculture provides.”
The date of the festival corresponds to author/philosopher Terrence McKenna’s prediction that December 21, 2012 would “mark a great evolutionary shift in consciousness.”
The fundraiser via RocketHub has to date reached over 50% of its projected goal of $20,000, ending on August 18, 2012.
