LONDON – UK stadium rockers Coldplay have announced via their website today that their new album will be completely carbon-neutral.

“We have green energy in the studio and every kilowatt of energy we use that isn’t green will be offset by buying carbon credits” says lead guitarist Jonny Buckland earlier today.

“It was Chris’s idea, really. Ever since he got back from Africa he’s been on a bit of an environment kick.”

To make sure no stone is left uncovered the band are meticulously detailing the energy used while recording. For example, when the band takes a break from recording to drive to a nearby Tesco Metro to buy some rosé and Kettle chips, the band always count the miles on the clock.

“It’s important to Coldplay that they make a difference,” adds Murray Clark, the band’s manager. “This is the first album in history to be carbon-neutral and we hope other bands will follow their lead.”

The album, tentatively titled CO2013, is to be released later this year and will be their sixth studio release to date.

Chris Martin was unavailable for comment as he is currently at a week-long yoga retreat with his wife Gwyneth.
